Hello, I am Shelby, Skin Nurse, and owner of Cosmetic Skin Therapies in Canberra.
As a nurse, I have a passion for treating skin and achieving real results using medical-grade treatments and skincare. My mission is to improve confidence not only in the skin you have, but also in your understanding of your skin.
Dreaded Canberra Winters
So it’s winter and it’s Canberra and we live in one of the most diverse and harsh climates in the world and this takes its toll on our skin. During winter, the skin’s natural barrier function is diminished and unless repaired, cellular turnover slows and we experience transepidermal water loss, which is a fancy science way of saying we often have dehydrated skin, which no one likes right? When our skin is dehydrated, it results in dull, lack luster skin, lower levels of collagen and early signs of aging occurring soon than any of us would like.
Fun fact …. Well two actually; first; you can have the oiliest skin I have ever seen and it will still suffer from dehydration, and second; there is a massive difference between dehydrated skin and dry skin.
So what can we do to keep our skin gorgeous during the cold season?
Glad you asked! Well, the first and most obvious thing is to make sure you seek advice on managing your homecare. This could mean anything from the products you use, to how often you use those products. What we do (or don’t do) to our skin at home is between 60-80% of the results we can achieve with skin.
Choosing good products is essential. however, if you have chosen your products based on your self-diagnosed (hello Dr. Google), it’s time to come in and learn about your skin and which active ingredients will help you.
Additionally, diet, stress management, and exercise play a big role in keeping the skin healthy. When you’re treating your body right, it will show through your skin and you’ll find that your overall health is also fantastic, which is a win-win!
